If you want to catch a wave or try and catch the wind head over to North Devon for an all action break. From the wilds of Exmoor to the Atlantic Coast, North Devon's diverse and rugged landscape makes it an ideal location for enjoying action and adventure holidays. The award winning Blue Flag beaches of Croyde, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! boast miles of golden sand which make them a magnet for families and water sports enthusiasts. The surfing hot spots of Croyde and Woolacombe attract experienced surfers from all over the world, whilst other water sports enthusiasts take advantage of the uninterrupted stretch of beach and tumbling surf at Westward Ho! for sea kayaking, skim boarding, kite surfing, wake boarding and kite buggy racing. Instow is the home of the North Devon Yacht Club and it is here, where the two rivers, The Taw and the Torridge meet the ocean. The conditions here, in the Torridge Estuary are ideal for sailing, windsurfing and river kayak tours. For real salty dogs there are plenty of deep sea fishing trips, diving trips, scenic and wildlife cruises along the North Devon Heritage Coast or you can even swim with the seals off Lundy Island. Land lovers can experience some exhilarating fun clay pigeon shooting, quad biking, paint-balling, coarse fishing or angling. Walkers and ramblers can stride out across bleak moor land or along the many public footpaths which meander through wooded valleys and rolling countryside or hike along the more demanding stretches of the South West Coast Path. The less strenuous Tarka Trail is perfect for families and is enjoyed by walkers and cyclists. There are various points along the trail at Great Torrington, Bideford, Yelland and Barnstaple where you can hire a bike, trike or tandem. Novice and experienced riders can saddle up at one of a number of riding stables across the region. For stag and hen weekends or corporate events Adventure Schools, such as Skern Lodge, offer team building activities, climbing, abseiling and assault courses.
